Bio


Thomas Johnson, LSW, is a licensed social worker and counselor at Hudson River Care and Counseling. Thomas works virtually and at the Teaneck, New Jersey, office. 

Thomas earned his associate’s degree in human services before graduating with a bachelor’s in sociology from Lehman College. He later earned his master’s in social work from Nyack College. 

Thomas has received training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), person-centered therapy, accelerated experiential dynamic psychotherapy (AEDP), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT), multisystemic family therapy (MST), and advanced behavioral analysis (ABA). This experience allows Thomas to tailor every session to benefit his patients and their individual needs. He also utilizes aspects of his faith, such as bible scriptures and prayer, for clients who want that incorporated into their sessions.

With several areas of specialty, including trauma, depression, anxiety, youth in foster care, parents with autistic children, and religious trauma, Thomas has 17 years of human service experience. He has worked in various capacities, ranging from being a preschool teacher to working with youth and adults on the spectrum and other disabilities. He has also worked within the foster care system.

Thomas was primarily raised in the Bronx and the Lower East Side of New York City. His hobbies include spoken word poetry, basketball, video games, chess, skydiving, hiking, research, and being a lifetime member of psi-beta honors society. Thomas hopes to conduct studies on the relationship between epigenetics and interpersonal resilience in the near future. Thomas is currently married with two young children.
